Terms of Service
Last updated: July 21, 2026
These Terms govern your access to and use of Alvro's marketplace, apps, and services. They're written to be as plain as we can make them — please read them carefully.
01Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a binding contract between you and Alvro LLC (“Alvro,” “we,” or “us”). By creating an account, browsing listings, booking a trip, or listing a vehicle, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Notice and Acceptable Use Policy.
These Terms, together with the Cancellation Policy, the Acceptable Use Policy, the Fee Schedule, the Privacy Policy, the marketplace policies published at /policies, and all policies referred to or linked in these Terms (together, the “Policies”), form the entire agreement between you and Alvro LLC. The Policies are incorporated into these Terms by reference.
If you do not agree, you may not use Alvro. We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app, by email, or on this page at least 30 days before they take effect.
02What Alvro is
Alvro is an online marketplace that connects people who want to rent a car (“renters”) with people who want to share their personal vehicle for a fee (“hosts”). Alvro is not a rental car company. We do not own the vehicles listed on the platform and we are not a party to the trip between a renter and a host.
We provide the platform, payment processing, customer support, identity verification, insurance options, and other services that make peer-to-peer car sharing possible. Each trip is a direct arrangement between the renter and the host.
03Eligibility
To use Alvro, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old (21+ for certain vehicle classes).
- Hold a valid driver's license accepted in the jurisdiction where the trip takes place.
- Provide accurate identity and payment information and keep it up to date.
- Pass our identity checks — including a photo of your government ID and a selfie that matches it — plus our license and driving-record checks. See Identity & Eligibility.
We may refuse, suspend, or terminate access to Alvro at our sole discretion if you do not meet these requirements or violate these Terms.
04Your account
You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. Keep your login credentials confidential, use a strong password, and notify us immediately at security@alvro.com if you suspect unauthorized access.
You may not create more than one account, share your account with others, transfer it, or use another person's account without permission.
If we identify duplicate accounts for the same person, we may consolidate them — keeping your verified account and closing the other. Trip history, reviews, and balances stay with the account they belong to and are not merged between accounts.
05Bookings, payments & fees
When you book a trip, you authorize Alvro to charge your payment method for the total trip price shown at checkout, including the base rate, protection plan, taxes, and any applicable fees. Alvro collects payment on behalf of the host and remits the host's share after the trip ends.
A single trip may last up to 90 days. A longer stay must be booked as a new reservation.
Other charges may apply during or after a trip, including:
- Mileage overage fees (see Mileage & Fuel Policy).
- Late-return fees (see Late Return Policy).
- Tolls, parking tickets, and traffic citations.
- Damage reimbursement (see Damage & Wear Policy).
- Cleaning fees for trips returned in unreasonable condition.
All fees are clearly disclosed at checkout or before they are applied. Disputes are handled through the process described in our Refunds & Disputes policy.
06Fees & taxes
You authorize Alvro to charge the payment method on file for the trip price and any fees you incur in connection with a trip or your account. Depending on the trip, these may include:
- The trip price (the host's rate for the reservation).
- The Alvro service fee.
- The cost of the protection plan you select.
- Refundable security deposits or holds.
- A young-driver fee for eligible younger drivers.
- Cleaning fees, and smoking- or pet-violation fees.
- Late-return and improper-return fees.
- Fuel and EV-recharge fees.
- Mileage-overage fees.
- Tolls, parking tickets, and traffic citations.
- Claims-handling and appraisal fees.
- Roadside-assistance and towing charges.
We do not print fee amounts in these Terms. The exact amount of any fee is disclosed to you at checkout or before it is applied, and the current amounts are set out in the Fee Schedule, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
Promotional codes and account credit are subject to their posted terms.
Accepted payment methods. Alvro accepts major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. We do not accept cash, checks, or prepaid cards.
Authorizations and Request bookings. When you request a trip that a host must accept, we may place a temporary authorization (a hold) on your payment method rather than an immediate charge. If the host declines, does not respond within the applicable response window, or the trip is otherwise not accepted — or if a booking is fully refunded — that authorization is released and no charge is made. Depending on your bank, a released hold can take a few business days to drop off your statement.
Unpaid balances. A trip charge or post-trip fee is first attempted on the payment method on file. If it cannot be collected, the amount becomes an unpaid balance on your account, which you must settle before you can book, start, or extend another trip.
Security deposits. A refundable security deposit may be authorized when you book and charged to your payment method shortly before the trip starts. If that charge cannot be collected, the trip is cancelled and the applicable cancellation fee applies. Otherwise the deposit is held during the trip and released after it ends, unless a claim or incidental charge is still open. Deposit amounts are set out in the Fee Schedule.
Taxes. Where required, Alvro may collect and remit applicable taxes as a marketplace facilitator. Any such taxes are shown separately at checkout. Tax rates are not set out in these Terms.
07Cancellations & refunds
Cancellations and refunds are governed by our Cancellation Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. The applicable policy depends on when the booking was made and when the cancellation is submitted.
08What governs your trip
Each confirmed trip is governed by these Terms of Service, the Cancellation Policy, and — for hosts — the Host Agreement in effect when you book, together with the trip details shown in your booking confirmation, which is the record of your trip. Changes agreed off-platform are not binding.
09Renter responsibilities
As a renter, you agree to:
- Drive only on maintained public roads in the United States — no off-roading, and no driving on unpaved or unimproved private roads or trails.
- Keep the trip in the U.S. Every trip must begin, stay, and end within Alvro's active U.S. service areas. Driving across any international border — including into Mexico or Canada — is prohibited, voids all protection for the trip, and is a material breach of these Terms.
- Obey all applicable traffic, parking, and licensing laws.
- Use the vehicle only for personal, non-commercial transportation (no rideshare, delivery, racing, off-roading, or towing).
- Be the only driver — only people added to the trip as approved drivers may operate the vehicle.
- Refuel or recharge to the level required by the host before returning the car.
- Pay for the fuel or charging, tolls, and parking you use during your trip, and any tickets, citations, and impound fees you incur.
- Promptly report accidents, damage, theft, or mechanical issues.
10Driver eligibility & acceptable driving record
By booking a trip, you — and every additional or authorized driver — represent and certify that, at booking and throughout the trip, you:
- hold a valid driver's license that is not suspended, revoked, or cancelled; and
- have an acceptable driving record — meaning no conviction for driving under the influence (DUI or DWI) in the past 3 years; no conviction for reckless driving, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident in the past 3 years; and no history of vehicle theft or of using a vehicle to commit a crime.
A pattern of recent at-fault accidents or serious moving violations may also result in a decline. This is Alvro's single driving-record standard; it is the same standard referenced by the Identity & Eligibility policy.
You authorize Alvro to obtain a motor vehicle record and driving history from any source, at any time. A false certification, or operation by an ineligible driver, is a material breach: any Alvro protection plan or coverage is void for the affected trip, and you are fully responsible for all resulting loss, damage, liability, and costs. Certain vehicle classes require drivers to be 21 or older, and renters under 25 are subject to a young-driver surcharge.
Alvro may, but has no obligation to, verify any user's identity, driver's license, or driving record, or to conduct any background or other check. Alvro does not endorse any user and does not guarantee that it has screened, or will screen, any user or any user's background, driving history, or license status. Any screening Alvro does perform is for its own risk-management purposes and creates no duty to any user or third party. Alvro is not responsible or liable for any user's acts, omissions, conduct, or background.
Adding a driver. To let someone else drive, add them in the app before pickup; each additional driver needs their own verified Alvro account and must pass this same standard. The additional-driver fee in the Fee Schedule is waived for a spouse or domestic partner in the same household.
11Host responsibilities
As a host, you agree to:
- List only vehicles you legally own or have written authorization to share.
- Keep your vehicle's registration, inspection, and routine maintenance current.
- Provide an accurate description, working features, and current photos.
- Honor every confirmed booking and meet the renter at the agreed pickup time and place.
- Deliver the vehicle clean, fueled or charged as advertised, and in safe working order.
- Respond to renter messages and Alvro support within a reasonable timeframe.
- Maintain a valid bank account for payouts and report income as required by your jurisdiction.
12Insurance & protection
Each Alvro trip includes a protection plan selected by the renter at checkout, with options for liability coverage, physical damage coverage, and deductibles. See our Insurance & Protection Plans policy for full details.
You may instead decline Alvro's protection and use your own personal auto insurance, subject to Alvro's review and approval of your policy. On a trip where you use your own insurance, your insurer is responsible for both physical damage and third-party liability, Alvro's liability coverage does not apply, and a refundable security hold applies — see “Decline protection / use your own insurance” in the Insurance & Protection policy.
Protection is provided through licensed third-party insurers. Alvro is not an insurance company. Coverage limits, exclusions, and claims procedures are set out in the plan documents.
You select your protection plan at checkout and may change it up until the trip starts; at pickup the selected plan locks for the rest of the trip. The version of the plan terms in effect when you booked governs that trip.
13Telematics & recording devices
A host may use a GPS or telematics device on their vehicle for safety, security, and recovery purposes. A host must clearly disclose in the listing any device that tracks the vehicle's location or records data during a trip.
- In-cabin audio recording is not permitted.
- Interior cameras are prohibited.
- Dash cameras must be outward-facing only, and must be disclosed in the listing.
- A host may not remotely lock the vehicle or disable its ignition while a trip is in progress.
An undisclosed tracking or recording device can void the trip and may lead to action against the host's account.
14Communications
Transactional messages — such as security codes, booking confirmations, and trip alerts — are part of the Alvro service. You will continue to receive them even after you opt out of marketing messages.
Marketing text messages are sent only with your consent. You can stop marketing texts at any time by replying STOP to that message stream, and reply HELP for help. Carrier message and data rates may apply.
15Prohibited conduct
You may not use Alvro to:
- Break any law or regulation.
- Discriminate against or harass another user.
- Misrepresent your identity, a vehicle, a trip, or any communication.
- Circumvent Alvro's payment system or take a booking off-platform.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or interfere with the platform.
- Engage in any activity prohibited by our Acceptable Use Policy.
16User content
When you post listings, reviews, messages, photos, or other content on Alvro, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, reproduce, and distribute that content in connection with operating and promoting the service. You retain ownership of your content and are responsible for ensuring you have the right to post it.
17Termination
You may close your Alvro account at any time, so long as you have no active or upcoming confirmed trips, no open claims or disputes, and no outstanding balances owed to Alvro, a host, or a guest. If any of those are pending, you may close your account once your confirmed trips are honored and the balances or claims are resolved. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms, fraud, abuse, legal requirements, or material harm to the community. We will provide reasonable notice where possible, except where immediate action is necessary to protect users or the platform.
18Disclaimers
Alvro is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Alvro disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, the accuracy of any listing, or that a trip will meet your expectations.
19Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Alvro's aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the fees you paid to Alvro in the 12 months preceding the claim and (b) $100. Alvro is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
20Dispute resolution & arbitration
You and Alvro agree to resolve any dispute through binding individual arbitration administered by a nationally recognized arbitration provider under its applicable consumer or streamlined rules, except for small-claims-court matters and requests for injunctive relief. The arbitration will take place in the county of Alvro's principal place of business, in English.
Class-action waiver: You and Alvro agree to bring claims only in your individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class or representative proceeding.
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of creating your account by emailing legal@alvro.com.
21Legal fees & costs
In any dispute, arbitration, or proceeding between you and Alvro, each party is responsible for its own attorneys' fees and costs, regardless of who prevails. This does not limit a party's right to recover fees where applicable law grants a non-waivable right to them, and it does not limit the authority of a court or arbitrator to award fees or sanctions against a party whose claim is found frivolous or brought in bad faith.
22Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute not subject to arbitration will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Ada County, Idaho.
