Identity & Eligibility
Last updated: May 22, 2026
Knowing who's on the platform is foundational to trust. This policy explains who can rent and host on Alvro, what we verify, and how to appeal an eligibility decision.
01Summary
Trust starts with knowing who's using the platform. Alvro verifies every renter's identity and license before their first trip, and every driver must meet our driving-record standard — with motor-vehicle-record checks when a trip's risk or vehicle value warrants it.
02Age requirements
- 18+ for most vehicles.
- 21+ for performance, luxury, and certain SUVs.
- 25+ for certain exotic and high-value vehicles.
- 30+ for vehicles valued over $65,000.
A “young driver fee” may apply to renters under 25 to reflect insurance market rates.
03Driver's license
Renters must hold a valid driver's license issued by a country Alvro supports. Learner's permits and licenses that are currently suspended, revoked, or cancelled are not accepted.
A license issued outside the United States must be valid in the country that issued it and accepted for driving in the U.S. state where you pick up the car. If it is not issued in English, you must also carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) or a certified English translation with the license during the trip.
04Checks we perform
Before your first trip, we verify:
- Government-issued photo ID matches your profile.
- A selfie you take at sign-up matches the photo on your ID (a liveness and identity check).
- Driver's license is valid and unexpired.
- You meet Alvro's driving-record standard — with a motor-vehicle-record check when a trip's risk or vehicle value warrants it.
- You haven't been removed from Alvro previously.
- Your payment method passes standard fraud checks.
Verification typically completes within a few minutes but can take up to 24 hours when manual review is needed.
05Driving history
Driving-record eligibility follows the single standard set out in the Terms of Service (Driver eligibility & acceptable driving record): a valid license that is not suspended, revoked, or cancelled; no conviction for driving under the influence (DUI or DWI), reckless driving, racing, or leaving the scene of an accident in the past 3 years; and no history of vehicle theft or of using a vehicle to commit a crime. A pattern of recent at-fault accidents or serious moving violations may also result in a decline.
06Approved drivers
Only the renter and any approved drivers added to the trip in advance may operate the vehicle. Each approved driver must pass the same checks. Letting an unapproved driver operate the car voids protection and may result in account removal.
07Host eligibility
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Must legally own or have written authorization to share the vehicle.
- Vehicle must meet model-year, mileage, and value requirements.
- Vehicle must be free of open safety recalls.
- Vehicle must pass local registration and inspection.
- Host must pass an identity and driving-record screen.
08Appeals
If you're declined and believe the decision was made in error, you can appeal by emailing trust@alvro.com with any supporting documentation. Decisions are typically reviewed within 5 business days.
